Every night in Canada, almost 4,000 women sleep in domestic violence shelters because it isn’t safe at home. 1 in 2 women report physical injuries, including to the face. Some women have visible trauma to their faces and mouths, while others suffer the compounded effects of neglect. For women to participate as equitable economic, social, and democratic citizens, they must be free of the facial and oral health impacts of domestic violence.
The Dr. Borna Meisami Commemorative Foundation help and empowers survivors of violence in concrete ways to rebuild their lives after gender-based violence by providing free essential oral health care for restoring function, eliminating pain, improving speech and mastication, and providing the smile women need to confidently engage in social and employment opportunities.
